We all heard of white collar crimes mostly perpetrated by men.
The crimes committed by Women are known a “Pink Collar Crimes”.
The Pink- Collar crimes are actually on the rise as compared to other types like white collar crimes, red collar crimes and green collar crimes.
The word pink Collar crime was coined as early as in late 1980s by criminologist Kathleen Daly.
They are typically charged with forgery and embezzlement.
They too are motivated to commit the crimes like men who commit crimes.
These women can be your co-workers, neighbours, friends or your very trusted secretary or book keeper.
Though the number of crimes committed by woman are on the rise, the amounts involved are not huge unlike white collar criminals like Madoff, Enron, World com and the like.
Normally Pink-collar crimes consists of Cheque kiting, book keeper embezzlements, teaming and lading and the like.
Often Pink-collar criminal’s “Victims” fall prey to the woman’s -gentle, soft, sensitive way of dealing and thus it becomes easy to perpetrate crimes by women criminals.
No one suspects that a fraudster is in the corner.
In wars-women spies play an important role in espionage activities by using their charms and getting the enemy secrets and strategies.
Normally the age group of pink collar criminals is about 30 to 45 years of age with a good academic back ground.
It is further observed from a sample studies that as the percentage of Pink collar criminals is less as compared to white collar crimes it is also difficult to catch and often difficult.

Some Pink-collar criminals work in a doctor’s clinic and steal all personal information of patients and use it for their personal advantage and perpetrate crimes.
Fraud Triangle (discussed elsewhere in the web site) also is responsible for woman to commit crimes to meet their needs.
Long standing women employee too commit these crimes taking advantage of the information available with them and the trust placed by their employer.
Rapid industrialization and creating employment to women, some resort to these crimes taking advantage of their position and soft nature.
Another reason is the difference in wages paid to women employees as compared to their peers in men-often a huge gap persists there which in turn is responsible for Pink collar crimes to take place to meet ends.
These crimes range from a few thousand dollars to a few million dollars.
These crimes also involve criminal breach of trust.
They are the “nice ones” in the office.
The rise in pink collar crimes is on the rise though in terms of percentage of crimes white collar crimes are higher.
A survey has showed that there is considerable increase in pink collar crimes from 13% in 2010 to 17 % in 2016.
Thus women are becoming more bold and confident in committing the crimes.

Prevention:
The pink-collar crimes are also detected and prevented in the same way as white-collar crimes by good KYC before appointing an employee, well laid out internal controls and checks and strict implementation. Division of responsibilities and allocation of work responsibilities and good control of stocks and cash and other assets of the organisation and a good internal audit at regular intervals.
All these measures will drastically reduce the incidence ,if not completely eliminate the intelligent fraudsters ,as they always find ways to perpetrate the frauds at the earliest opportunity by new methods .
