Fraudsters on Christmas Shopping websites
Beware of Christmas Shopping on internet from fraudsters who are on the prowl with fake websites and fake goods and cheat gullible public who are all excited to buy the best at low rates during Christmas and New Year time.
Public should be alert and think twice before buying articles on internet.
The age group of 20-30 years usually fall victims to online Christmas shopping.
Online auction frauds in UK account for 65% of the reported frauds in 2016.Victims reported losing 16 Million Pounds as reported in “Action Fraud”.
It is observed that the goods where the Victims are targeted are mainly the following types:
1. Watches
2. Hair dryers
3. Jewellery
4. Makeup items
5. Drones
6.Clothes and the like.
The Police and other statutory bodies should identify the websites and phones used by these Christmas Shopping Fraudsters and block the same.
The buyers should exercise extra caution:
1.Think before you buy. Do not rush to buy in excitement and fall prey to scamsters targeting such buyers.
2.Be secure with your payments online.
3.Do not go for cheap but attractive goods online.
4.Pay attention to the supplier credentials.
5.Beware of unsolicited E-mails and text messages during Christmas period
6.If it is a holiday package make sure you go through a reliable operator.
7.Make sure the mobile phones and computers that use for online buying are up-to-date with anti-virus software’s.
8.Change the pass words on various platforms that are browsed frequently.
9.Use paypal for payments.
10.Beware of E-greeting card purportedly sent by your friend or relative but in fact take you to the fraudster website on replying.
11. Do not pay for undelivered goods a message or notice coming to you-check directly with the company, you may be asked to pay or ask for your personal details and bank details-do not giveaway without checking directly as there may not exist such a parcel or courier company.
12. Beware of Hamper company offers and instalment offers and discount offers-all may be fake and whatever you paid is lost and the fraudsters make good of that amount without any delivery.
